Dry Riser Servicing

Comprehensive Dry Riser Testing & Service Contracts

We offer a comprehensive dry riser service for testing, routine maintenance and repairs. Where ever possible we aim to carry out any unscheduled repairs at the same time as the routine maintenance and testing on all dry risers to ensure an efficient, cost effective service and minimise disruption.

Our professional team have many years experience and have completed many hundreds of dry riser service contracts. Together with their wealth of experience our engineers carry a vast spares inventory to ensure they are equipped to perform on the spot fixes, if required.

Our services include all the necessary dry riser testing, both annual pressure testing to 12Bar as dictated by BS9990:2015 and 6 monthly visual checks.

Recently we have had calls to a number of thefts of dry riser inlets for their scrap value. We will fit secure Dry Riser cabinets to minimize this occurrence for a fixed fee.

We have contracts with Block Management, FM companies and single property owners throughout the UK.

For a price or to schedule the work in, please call or email service@dryrisersdirect.co.uk.

Testing of Dry Risers

Dry Riser Testing is Required Every Six Months

Regular dry riser testing is essential to ensure the equipment is is good working order. Servicing and maintenance of the equipment should also carried out at this time. The importance of a working dry riser can not be underestimated. The Fire brigade depends on dry risers in their fight against fire. If they cannot quickly and easily access the equipment or if it is faulty it may hamper their attempts to fight the fire so further endanger lives.

What Testing is Required on a Dry Riser?

The 2015 British Standards BS9990 lays out recommendations for dry riser testing, maintenance and servicing. It recommends a visual inspection of dry riser equipment every six months and a more detailed physical dry riser test each year.

Dry Riser Visual Inspection

The visual inspection of dry risers, required every 6 months, is to ensure that there are no obvious signs of damage or vandalism. It is important to document this and to quickly repair or replace any damaged or missing parts.

Annual Dry Riser Testing

It is a legal requirement that all dry riser installations undergo and pass a more in-depth dry riser test every 12 months. This annual dry riser test involves a physical testing of the dry riser installation.  This includes a hydraulic pressure test (or wet pressure test). Using a fire service approved hose and water pump the system is filled with water to a pressure of 12 bar (175psi) for a minimum of 15 minutes. This tests the system for any leaks. Our engineers carry out an initial air pressure test first to reduce the risk of a flooding should the dry riser leak. A comprehensive test of all valves, washers, seals, inlet and outlet valves is carried out along with a check of the dry riser cabinets and signage. Once the test is complete the dry riser system is drained and outlet valves are closed and secured with padlocks and straps. Finally the inlet breeching cabinet is closed and locked.

Following a dry riser test or a dry riser service, a certificate is issued to record the date of the testing and confirm the equipment passed the test and that it meets the requirements of BS9990:2015.

Who is Responsibly for Dry Riser Testing?

It is important to note that if there is ever a fire, the person responsible for the building i.e. the property owner, landlord or facilities manager, will need to show that all dry risers located in the building have been tested annually and that there is a valid certificate of compliance in place.

Our Dry Riser Test Equipment

To help you understand what is involved in dry riser testing please see the video below. As you can see the test equipment is quite large so good access and convenient parking near the system to be tested is important.

The dry riser testing equipment is comprised of a single cylinder electric start diesel engine and a triple piston pump (Interpump AB180 : 60 Bar max).

The unit is specially designed to recirculate the water back into the tank to minimise mess and the need for additional water.

Testimonials

A massive thank you to you and your lads for the old London road job, the client rang and was over the moon with the job.

To whom it may concern, I have been asked to give a reference for Dry Risers Direct. I would have no hesitation in using again or recommending this company. The were punctual, clean, tidy and pragmatic. There were several challenging issues within our existing building that some other companies were daunted by. Adrian and his team displayed a wealth of experience to accomplish our project and meet stringent building control regulations. I look forward to working with Dry Risers Direct on our next project.
